Absentee Voting

You may complete an Absentee Voter Application Form online. You may also write or go to the Board of Elections and request an absentee ballot, giving the following information:

* NO FAXED ABSENTEE APPLICATION REQUESTS ARE PERMITTED BY LAW

  • *Your name and voting residence.
  • *The election for which you are requesting a ballot.
  • *Your party choice, if the election is a Primary, or that you want to vote an issues-only ballot.(Under Ohio Election Law, the ballot you vote in a Primary Election determines your party affiliation).
  • *The mailing address to which you want your ballot sent.
  • *Your date of birth.
  • *Your complete legal signature or mark.
  • *Ohio Election Law does not recognize a Power of Attorney. If the voter is unable to sign, the voter must make a mark and may be witnessed and signed by another person.
Note:

If voting in person, you may apply at the Board of Elections during regular office hours up to the Friday before the election.

If requesting a ballot by mail, your written request must be received at the Board of Elections by noon on the Saturday prior to the election for which you are requesting the ballot.

Please request an absentee ballot as early as possible and allow enough time if returning ballot by mail delivery to meet the return deadline.

All voted absentee ballots must be postmarked by the day prior to the election (and received with in 10 days after the election), or hand delivered to the Board of Elections office by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.

Exception:

Ballots mailed from out of the country will be counted if received by the Board of Elections within 10 days following the election if post-marked by Election Day. (In the case of a Presidential Primary Election, out of country ballots will be counted if received by the Board of Elections within 20 days following the election if post-marked by Election Day).

Medical Emergencies

The absentee ballot request deadline is 3:00 p.m. on Election Day in the case of medical emergencies. To be eligible under the provision, you must be confined in a hospital because of a medical emergency. A close relative may deliver and return your ballot if you so request and state the relatives name and relationship on the application. Representatives of the Board of Elections can be requested to deliver the ballot. Please call the Absentee Voting Department at the Board of Elections at 513.695.1358.
